Xbox Head Defends Their Ability to Protect Kids in Minecraft Using Nintendo as an Example

In case you haven’t heard, the Nintendo Switch is getting crossplay in Minecraft with Xbox One and PC. We also now know why PlayStation 4 is not included, as they cited they needed to protect children. Microsoft naturally didn’t take kindly to the pseudo accusation that Xbox, the owners of Minecraft, can’t and don’t protect children well enough for Sony to get in on the crossplay fun. Here is Xbox head Phil Spencers hot fire response:

The worst part in all of this is that it further fractures the Minecraft player base at at time when the owners are trying to bring the whole community together, and really it only truly hurts Sony’s own consumers. Of course, there is no public excuse given for why Sony also won’t support crossplay with Rocket League, something that Microsoft has nothing to do with.

I don’t blame Sony. I heard more verbal abuse from my time on XBL than I ever have on any other service.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t believe it’s “to protect children” for a second. To me, this sounds like, since they have the largest install base, and probably the largest player base (except pc and mobile, probably), they just don’t wanna lost that advantage.

    • At first I thought – maybe it’s just the idea of “logging into xbox live through ps4” that put them off… then we heard about rocket league which doesn’t do that… and it’s strange. They are just hurting their own consumers. Cutting off PS4 players from everyone else. It would have been cool to play rocket league on my switch with friends who own a PS4.
