Super Mario Sunshine in Unreal Engine 4 Makes Me Want a HD Remake

Super Mario Sunshine has now been given the Unreal Engine 4 treatment thanks to CryZENx and needless to say, it looks absolutely stunning. Sunshine is a bit of a divisive title in the series, as it followed up what many consider to be the best Mario game in existence yet failed to live up to the hype. That being said, there are certainly many Sunshine fans out there that can appreciate the approach and naturally would like to see the title given some more love.

While this fan project only gives us a tease, it does make me heavily desire Nintendo explore the idea of making an HD version for the Switch sometime in the future. Will I ever get that wish fulfilled? Probably not, but for now I’ll marvel at this footage and wonder “what if”.

Super realistic graphics just don’t fit Nintendo’s style, for better or for worse for them as a company. That said, I’m sure there’s some games they make that could benefit from that art style.

Also, if you’re trying to show off the graphics, don’t have the video be in 144p

Change the settings to 1080p then…it is available in full HD.

        • Blake Wigert

Should automatically be at the highest setting, like every other YouTube video. Hell, I have videos that are just music that render at 1080p naturally

          • *Joel*

Actually youtube quality setting changes dynamically based on your netspeed at the time of streaming (doesn’t always work great) so you sometimes have to manually select the highest one. Its been like that for years…

      • Yeah… it is uploaded in 1080p

        • Blake Wigert

Default is 144 though, HD should render in HD quality, not require you to do it

Metroid in Unreal 4? Come on, do this CryZEN! 🙂

      • Yes. That’s also one of Nintendo’s games that really fits in this style. Wouldn’t mind seeing him try it with Xenoblade too.

        • Andrew Defty

Xenoblade is lush to gaze upon for Wii U, but the extra “umph!” that Unreal would give… That would melt my mind…
