Pokemon Company Clarifies How Catching Pokemon Works in Let’s Go via Portable Mode

We all know that the intended way of catching Pokemon in Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee involves making a throwing motion with the Joy-con. However, that’s obviously not something that would function correctly in portable mode, since the joy-cons are attached to the system. Here is what The Pokemon Company had to say about playing it portable and catching Pokemon:

“In handheld mode with both Joy-Con attached – you are still required to move around to aim, but you press a button to throw the Pokéball. It is not touch screen like on a smartphone because the Switch is quite a bit heavier than your smart phone.”

This is a bit interesting, since you aren’t really moving around when playing in TV mode, just making the motion of throwing. Portable, it works basically exactly like it does in Pokemon GO, with a button press replacing the throwing motion and phone swipe.
