Nintendo Switch Could Get a Local Discord App

We know voice chat on the Nintendo Switch is handled through a yet to be released phone application, but what if there was a better way? Discord is a chat service I use every single day that takes on Skype, Teamspeak, and Ventrilo all at the same time crafting a communication program dedicated to gamers. It offers text chat, chat rooms, voice, private messaging, and so much more. It’s constantly getting better and more importantly, it’s 100% free.

In fact, we have our own discord server if you want to come chat with us. That being said, Discord responded to a request for Switch support by directing fans to their feedback community, where they add new features to discord based on which ideas get the most upvotes. Essentially, if enough people want discord on Switch, they will try to find a way to make it happen.

Of course, the app could run into some complications getting approved, as the concept of having it is to circumvent Nintendo’s own solution to allow localized voice chat and messaging natively through the Nintendo Switch. Plus, who knows if Nintendo would allow such an application to run in the background while gaming. That being said, you don’t know until you try, and if enough people want it… Discord seems very willing to give it a whirl. Who knows, maybe it even leads to Nintendo and Discord creating a partnership. Wouldn’t that be great, huh?

They have two seperate requests for it currently. So you can vote for the first one here, and the second one here.
