Pokémon Sun and Moon releases tomorrow, November 18th. Nintendo apparently feels strongly about the success of their newest Pokémon games, despite having pirated copies released early. They have shipped out 10 million copies for launch. The last Pokémon games released in the franchise, Pokémon X & Y, sold 15.64 Million copies.
Nintendo has been very ambitious in the last year with Pokémon and its working for them. Pokémon Go, a Niantic title licensed by The Pokemon Company and partially owned by Nintendo, was a worldwide phenomenon for mobile users and it generated a lot of excitement for veteran Pokémon players all the way to those who have never played Pokémon before. Surely Nintendo timed the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon to keep the excitement going and drive sales of the game to a whole new level. If they did, it shows. The game has not only set a record for preorders but also downloads for the free demo achieved the title of , “most downloaded demo on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Nintendo history.”
The next calendar year is going to be an exciting time for all of us. Nintendo ruled the gaming market years ago so they know how to generate hype, and it looks like they are getting in touch with their old self.
