Nintendo Ends Production of the New Nintendo 3DS in Japan

Nintendo recently announced that the original New Nintendo 3DS model would be ceasing production in Japan. Originally released in 2014, the first model of the New Nintendo 3DS line allowed users to customize their system with removable face plates based on existing Nintendo IP’s and other miscellaneous designs.

When asked if this would effect units for the system currently being sold in America, Nintendo commented stating:

This announcement does not affect Nintendo of America territories, as the model in question was only sold in limited quantities as special offerings. There are no changes to the sales status of New Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS or the upcoming New Nintendo 2DS XL, which launches on July 28.

The New Nintendo 3DS made its debut in US territories on September 25, 2015. The console was bundled with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and included two removable face plates based on the game.
