Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Latest Patch Removes “Offensive” Inkling Girl Gesture

Well, I didn’t see this coming. Nintendo released a new patch for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe yesterday and while I typically don’t post about patches that don’t provide any sigificant changes, there was one change that was quickly noticed and is getting people talking. Inkling Girl previously made the following gesture in game:

Depending on what part of the world you’re from, this has various implications. Everything from shut up and suck it (two rather child like, innocent insults) to some… much more adult like meanings (though, generally it’s still just kids using it in that manner). Up to this point, it certainly didn’t seem like a big deal and most people probably weren’t even aware the animation existed. However, here is the animation since the patch:

Notice the change? With the hand removed from the bicep, now it’s just a fist pump which is typically universal for a celebration. It’s a very minor change and doesn’t really affect the game, but in a world today where folks are constantly arguing over what is right or wrong for symbolism… it’s definitely a notable change.
