Wondering if Pokémon Sun and Moon runs just fine on that launch 3DS you still own or if it’s time to upgrade for a better experience regardless of the Nintendo Switch landing next year? Well, we’ve got you covered thanks to to YouTuber TiLMENDOMiNATiON, who put together a video comparison of the demo for Pokémon Sun and Moon. The comparison actually shows the old 3DS holding up quite well, but there is little doubt that you do see a performance bump on the New Nintendo 3DS itself. Load times in and out of the game are much quicker and there are times you notice occasional frame rate drops on the old unit that simply aren’t their on the new one.
Is it enough to make you upgrade to a New Nintendo 3DS? Probably not, because if you’ve refused to upgrade to this point, there really isn’t a fully compelling reason shown here to make you upgrade now. With the Nintendo Switch around the corner, it’s probably best to hold out and wait to see what the future of 3DS looks like. Still, I am pretty pleased with the slight performance increases I consistently enjoy with my New Nintendo 3DS XL unit.
