Reggie Fils-Aime was talking to Yahoo Finance about the holiday period of sales for Nintendo from a business perspective and revealed exactly why this sales period is so important to Nintendo.
“The holiday selling season – October, November and December – critically important to our company. We typically do, in the Americas, about 60% of our revenue during that time frame. The reason that it’s so significant is first, our products make great gifts. Whether you’re talking about Nintendo Switch, whether you’re talking about Nintendo 2DS, we really do well with that gift- giving occasion.” — Reggie Fils-Aime
That’s a lot of pressure on a single 3 month period (which makes up the entirety of Nintendo’s own financial 3rd quarter). Given that Nintendo overall sold 9 million Nintendo Switch’s world wide during that period last year, it’s obviously a time frame that matters more than any other for Nintendo across the board. I think most of us knew this overall, but it’s good to have some more concrete data on that front.
